What is IT Process Automation (ITPA)?
IT process automation (ITPA), sometimes referred to as run book automation (RBA), is transforming IT management and the ability to deliver services to the business faster. IT process automation benefits any enterprise where heterogeneous systems, departments and tasks need to be coordinated to deliver and support IT services, including fault management, change management, life cycle management, and maintenance procedures.
"Run Book Automation is the ability to design, build, orchestrate, manage and report on workflows that support IT operations process. A run book process can cross all management disciplines and interact with all types of infrastructure elements (hardware and software)." Gartner, IT Operations Run Book Automation: Automated Operations Revisited, June 2, 2006
How Does IT Process Automation Work?
IT process automation / ITPA solutions are made up of three components: orchestration, integration, and dynamic process automation. The combination of these elements enables any organization to automate end-to-end IT processes across a heterogeneous infrastructure.
